Most AI tools want $20 a month. ChatGPT Plus, Gemini Advanced, Claude Pro — subscribe to all of them and you’re paying more than your internet bill.
Here’s a website that lets you use all of them for free: arena.ai. Not a trial. Not a 7-day thing. Actually free, with no account needed to get started.
There’s a catch, but it’s a fair one, and I’ll explain it honestly in this post.

What Is Arena AI?
Arena is a public platform where AI models compete against each other and real people decide which one is better.
You may already know it by its old name. Arena was formerly called LMArena, and before that Chatbot Arena, and it’s been running since April 2023.
Here’s the basic idea: you type a prompt, two anonymous AI models answer it, and you vote for the better answer. After you vote, the models reveal their identities. Those millions of votes create the public leaderboards that researchers and developers around the world use to rank AI models.
So while you’re getting free access to premium AI, you’re also helping rank them. That’s the trade, and it’s a pretty good one.
What You Can Actually Do on Arena
This is the part most people don’t realise. Arena isn’t just chat. It has separate modes for different jobs:
- Chat with AI for normal conversations and questions
- Write and edit text for articles, captions and emails
- Generate images from a text prompt
- Generate videos from text or an image
- Build apps and websites with AI-written code
- Search the web with AI models that can browse
- Choose any model you want directly, instead of a random battle
- Compare models side by side on the same prompt
That last two are the ones I use most. If you just want to use a specific model, like Gemini or Claude, you don’t have to play the voting game at all. Pick it directly and start working.
Is It Really Free?
Yes, and this is not a trial. Arena is free to use, and creating an account is optional. The company is backed by major funding and makes money through commercial evaluation services for enterprises, not from you.
But let’s be honest about the limits, because your video viewers should know this too:
There are rate limits. You can’t generate a hundred videos in an hour. Arena is a free, rate-limited platform, so if you use it heavily you’ll hit a pause. Wait a while and you can continue. This is completely normal and exactly how most free AI tools protect themselves.
Free isn’t guaranteed forever. Arena’s terms currently describe the service as free, while reserving the right to introduce charges later. So enjoy it now, but don’t build your whole business on the assumption it stays free forever.
Not every model is always available. The lineup changes as new models arrive and old ones retire.
⚠️ The One Thing You Must Know Before Using It
This is important, and most videos about Arena skip it.
What you type on Arena is collected. When you submit a prompt, it’s collected to support public evaluations and to shape how AI models are developed. Arena has also open-sourced the largest public repository of human preference data on generative models, and those datasets are free for anyone to access.
In plain words: your prompts and conversations can end up in public research data.
That’s not a scam, and it’s not hidden. It’s literally the deal that makes the platform free. But it does mean you should follow these rules:
- Never paste personal information: no passwords, ID numbers, bank details or addresses.
- Never paste confidential work documents or client data.
- Don’t upload private photos of yourself or others.
For everyday use, like writing captions, brainstorming ideas, testing prompts, generating images or asking questions, it’s completely fine. Just treat it like posting in a public forum, not like a private notebook.
How to Get Started
Step 1: Go to arena.ai in any browser, on your phone or computer.
Step 2: Type your prompt in the box. Before you send it, pick the right mode using the icons, for example the image icon if you want a picture.
Step 3: In Battle mode, two anonymous models will answer. Read both and vote for the one you prefer.
Step 4: After voting, you’ll see which models they were. You can keep chatting in the same conversation, or start fresh.
Want to skip the voting? Use the “choose any model” option to pick a specific model directly and use it like a normal chatbot.

Smart Ways to Use Arena
Test a prompt before you commit. If you’re about to spend your daily ChatGPT limit on something important, try it on Arena first and see which model handles it best.
Use it for images and videos. This is the biggest win for creators. Video generation is expensive everywhere else, and here you can experiment for free within the limits.
Find out which AI is actually best for your work. Side-by-side mode is brilliant for this. Run the same prompt through two models and see the difference with your own eyes, instead of trusting someone’s opinion on YouTube.
Check the leaderboards. Arena publishes rankings for text, coding, image generation, video, search and more. It’s the easiest way to know which model is currently on top. Just remember what those rankings mean: they measure what people preferred, not which model is best for your specific task.
Arena vs Paid Subscriptions
Use Arena when you want to test models, generate the occasional image or video, compare answers, or just use good AI without paying.
Pay for a subscription when you need the extras: uploading your own files, saved chat history, custom instructions, memory, apps on your phone, and higher usage with no interruptions.
For most casual users and creators, Arena covers a surprising amount of what you’d otherwise pay for.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account?
No. Registration is optional, so you can start using it straight away.
Is arena.ai the same as lmarena.ai?
Yes. It’s the same platform, just renamed.
What happens when I hit the limit?
You wait. The limits reset, and then you can continue using it.
Can I use it in Pakistan?
Yes, it works in any browser. If a mode doesn’t load, try a different browser or clear your cache.
Is it safe?
The platform itself is legitimate and well-known in the AI research world. The thing to be careful about isn’t the site, it’s what you type into it, because your prompts may become part of public data.
Final Thoughts
Arena is one of the few genuinely free AI tools left that isn’t trying to upsell you every five minutes. You get access to the best models in the world, across chat, images, video and code, and all it asks in return is that you vote and accept that your prompts help public research.
Use it for testing, creating and experimenting. Just keep the private stuff out of it.
