Every week there’s a new AI tool everyone’s talking about. One is best for writing, another for images, another for videos. And every single one wants its own account and its own subscription.
That’s exactly the problem Poe solves. It puts the biggest AI models, plus hundreds of image, video and audio tools, into one app with one login. I’ve been using it to test different AIs side by side, and in this guide I’ll show you what it can do, what’s actually free, and how to get the most out of it without paying.

What Is Poe?
Poe is Quora’s multi-model AI chat aggregator: one app that puts ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok, plus image, video, and audio models, and tens of thousands of user-built bots behind a single login.
Think of it like a food court for AI. Instead of going to five different restaurants, you walk into one place and pick whatever you’re in the mood for.
Quora built Poe internally in 2022 and launched it publicly in February 2023. It’s available on iOS, Android, Mac, and Windows, and you can also use it straight from your browser at poe.com.
What Can You Do on Poe?
This is where Poe gets really interesting. The app is organised into different types of bots:
- Chat models: Official models from OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Grok, Claude, Google’s Gemini, DeepSeek, Meta’s Llama and more.
- Search bots: Bots with internet access, useful when you need up-to-date answers.
- Image generation: Tools like Google’s Imagen, GPT-Image and Stable Diffusion.
- Video generation: Models such as Veo, Runway, Hailuo and Sora.
- Audio generation: Voice tools like ElevenLabs and Cartesia.
- Community bots: Bots made by other users for roleplay, games, translation, creative writing and a lot more.
My favourite feature is comparing answers. Multi-bot threads let you ask several models the same question at once, so you can compare quality, speed and accuracy side by side. If you’ve ever wondered whether ChatGPT or Claude writes better captions, this is the easiest way to find out.
Is Poe Really Free? (The Honest Answer)
Yes and no. Let me explain, because a lot of videos and posts oversell this part.
Poe works on something called compute points. Each bot costs a fixed or variable number of points depending on the model, the length of the conversation, and whether it generates images or video. A simple chat with a small model costs very little, while generating a video costs a lot.
Here’s how the free plan works:
- Free users get a daily allowance of points that resets every 24 hours.
- The free allowance has become smaller over time. According to one long-time Poe user who tracks these numbers, free accounts dropped from 3,000 points per day to 300 around the end of March 2026, and unused points don’t roll over to the next day.
- Advanced bots and heavier usage generally need a paid subscription or extra points.
So realistically, the free plan is great for trying different AIs and doing light chatting. For regular image or video generation, you’ll need a paid plan.
How Much Does Poe Cost?
Poe has a six-step pricing ladder: Free, $4.99, $19.99, $49.99, $99.99 and $249.99 per month, with all paid plans around 17% cheaper if you pay yearly.
For most people, the two plans worth looking at are:
- Starter ($4.99/month): Gives 10,000 points per day. Good if you mainly chat and make the occasional image.
- Premium ($19.99/month): The most popular plan, with 660,000 monthly points that work across every premium model.
Exact plans and point amounts can vary by platform, region and account, so always check the price inside the app before you pay.

How to Get Started
Step 1: Go to poe.com, or download the Poe app from the Play Store or App Store.
Step 2: Sign up with your Google account, Apple ID or email.
Step 3: Tap Explore to browse bots, or just pick a model like ChatGPT or Claude from the main screen and start typing.
Step 4: Before sending, check how many points that bot costs. You’ll find this on the bot’s profile page.

Tips to Make Your Free Points Last Longer
Use lighter models for simple tasks. You don’t need the most powerful AI to fix your grammar or write a caption. Smaller models cost far fewer points and do these jobs just fine.
Check the cost of each message. You can tap the “Info” button on any bot’s message to see exactly how many points it used. After a day or two, you’ll know which bots are “cheap” and which ones eat your points.
Save the big models for big jobs. Use the powerful models only for things that really need them, like long articles, complicated questions or code.
Keep chats short. Longer conversations usually cost more points, because the AI has to “read” the whole chat every time you reply. Start a new chat when you change topics.
Create Your Own Bot (No Coding Needed)
This is a hidden gem. Poe’s bot creator works without code: you pick a base model, write your instructions, and save.
For example, I could make a “Tech With Taimoor Caption Bot” that always writes Instagram captions in my style. You write the instructions once, and then just give it a topic each time.
Creators can even publish their bots for others to use and earn a share of the revenue those bots generate.
What I Like and What I Don’t
What I like:
- Every major AI in one place, with one login.
- Comparing answers side by side is super useful.
- Building custom bots is easy and fun.
What I don’t like:
- The free points don’t go very far anymore.
- Each company’s special features, like ChatGPT’s plugins, Claude’s Projects or Gemini’s Google integration, aren’t available through Poe.
- Point costs can be confusing at first.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Poe safe to use?
Poe is made by Quora, a well-known company. As with any AI app, avoid sharing passwords, bank details or other private information in your chats.
Can I use ChatGPT for free on Poe?
You can try it with your daily free points, but the most advanced versions usually need a subscription.
Do free points add up if I don’t use them?
No. Points don’t accumulate or roll over, so use them or lose them.
Is Poe better than using ChatGPT directly?
It depends. If you use one AI every day, its own app is usually better. If you like switching between different AIs, Poe is much more convenient.
Final Thoughts
Poe is one of the easiest ways to explore the whole world of AI in one place. It’s perfect if you’re curious about different models, want to compare them, or don’t want five separate subscriptions. Just go in with the right expectations: the free plan is for trying things out, not for heavy daily use.
